The 789 Chevy, a blending of the 1957 Chevrolet, 1958 Chevrolet and 1959 Chevrolet classic designs, has been so popular on 57ClassicChevy.com that we thought visitors may enjoy seeing a contemporary 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air built by Boyd Coddington in 1995.

Boyd built this car exactly like General Motor’s, Chevy stylist and Chevy engineers would produce it today. Reminiscent of the original 1957 Chevy it would be “Sweet, Smooth and Sassy!

The 1957 Chevrolet CheZoom began as a drawing by freelance automotive stylist Thom Taylor.

Boyd Coddington’s 1957 Chevrolet CheZoom

The CheZoom was built for Joe Hrudka, owner and CEO of “Mr Gasket”. Joe was shown, by Boyd, Thom Taylor’s rendition of what a modern made 1957 Chevy would look like. Joe’s response was- “I’ll Take One”! The Chezoom was one of Boyd’s most famous creations and was further enhanced with substantial upgrade and minor modifications in 2004.

The build began with a stock 1957 Chevy 2 door hardtop. A custom tubular chassis was fabricated, then both the front and rear suspension system of a 1985 Corvette was added. A stock 350 cubic inch 300 horsepower LT-1 crate engine and 700-R4 transmission was used to move the Chezoom forward. The CheZoom rolled on Boyd’s 17 inch billet aluminum wheels. The car was painted Peacock Teal. This 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air Chezoom custom sold for $372,600.00 at the 2005 Barrett Jackson Auction.
