One 1959 Chevrolet advertisement claimed... they're the widest seats ever made in this country. There is an inch more head room in front than the 1958 Chevy, and at least that much more in back on most models. The excellent ball joint front suspension and recirculating ball steering gave smooth, accurate steering. However, like all Chevy's it takes a lot of wheel twisting to turn this big car around.
1959 Chevrolet Chassis (A) Anti-twist Arm (B) Extra Crossmember (C) Anti-sway- Bar Chevrolet improved their rear suspension in 1959 by adding new features that provided a better ride for passengers. To relieve the strain on rear springs and drivetrain, anti-twist arm, extra cross member and anti-sway bar were installed. The 1959 Chevrolet was 150 to 200 pounds heavier than 1958. This required more braking power to handle the increased inertia. Brake lining was increase by 20%, and new flanged drums dissipated heat more quickly.
