This article is about a 1959 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible with a removable fastback hardtop. Owned by Mike Walker and was built by Mike's company, Street Rods Only located in Macon, Illinois.

Mike Walker builds classic corvettes taken to the extreme and specializes in the 1958 Corvette, 1959 Corvette and 1960 Corvette.

Like most street rods, these American Automobiles are essentially hand built from the ground up to meet specific customer needs.

The reproduction fiberglass body of this 1959 Corvette was made by A-1 Fiberglass in Macon, Illinois. Features include fiberglass rear bumpers, 427 style hood, removable 1954 type fastback hardtop. The Corvette was painted Tangelo Orange with a custom blend of silver for the coves, accents and stripes.

It's hard to beat the classic 1959 Corvette styling. The body was designed with the unique fastback roof and a matching trunk lid that can be installed when the roof is removed for open air motoring. Another major addition was the use of a 1967 Corvette big block style hood.

The Custom Wheels are unique and made by EVOD Industries. These wheels are true knock-offs with splined hubs. On this Corvette 19x10 were used on the front and 20x11 on the rear. The EVOD custom wheels were designed to clear the Corvette suspension components including the massive Baer brakes.

The stance is a critical aspect of a this street rod. The chassis of the 1959 Chevrolet Corvette Orange Plus is custom made of 2x4 tubing. The front and rear suspension is C4 with a Dana 44 with 3.50 gears rear end. In addition Aldan Coilover shocks and Baer Brakes with 6 pistons and 15 inch rotors are used. All suspension components are chromed including the power Rack and Pinion unit.

1959 Chevrolet Corvette Engine Compartment

The engine is a modified General Motors LS2 overhead valve V-8 with a cast aluminum block with 364 cubic inches and rated at 550 horsepower. Modifications included a Magnuson supercharger and a Street & Performance polished chrome pulley system. Transmission used is a Tremec T-56. Nice!
